The Profitability of Non-Profits
Day in and day out, charitable organizations contribute to our quality of life. Because of the nonprofit sector, schools are supported, the arts are enhanced, animals are protected, and recreational opportunities abound. Moreover, charitable organizations help feed the hungry, clothe the poor and provide shelter for those without homes. Over 4800 nonprofit organizations make a positive difference in
the lives of Idaho’s citizens.
All too often, however, we fail to recognize the economic impact of Idaho’s nonprofit sector. According to a recent study commissioned by the Idaho Nonprofit Center, nonprofits are a significant driver of Idaho’s Gross State Product. In fact, charitable nonprofit organizations bring $1.9 billion of annual federal and out-of-state revenues into Idaho. Idaho nonprofits employ nearly 50,000 people, and they pay significant taxes.
